Introduction To PE (Polyethylene) Anti-corrosion Tape

PE polyethylene anti-corrosion tape (also known as cold-applied tape or integrated anti-corrosion tape) is a pipeline external anti-corrosion material composed of anti-corrosion tape, protective tape, jointing tape, and primer. The base material is a polyethylene film, and the adhesive layer is mainly butyl rubber, formed through a co-extrusion process. Depending on the product material and anti-corrosion structure, it is further divided into composite anti-corrosion tape and polyethylene-modified asphalt anti-corrosion tape. It possesses properties such as resistance to soil stress and ultraviolet radiation, as well as good chemical corrosion resistance. A single layer of tape can achieve the ordinary or reinforced anti-corrosion requirements of the SY/T0414-2007 standard. It is mainly used for external anti-corrosion of buried steel pipelines in oil, natural gas, chemical, urban water supply and drainage, and gas transmission industries.

 

The product thickness ranges from 0.7-1.4mm, with a tensile strength ≥18MPa and an elongation at break ≥150%. It complies with the SY/T 0414-2017 standard and also meets the requirements of the American AWWA C214 standard. The flame retardancy of the base material can be improved by adding composite flame retardants. Construction requires St3/Sa2 grade surface rust removal treatment, application of a special primer, wrapping with adhesive tape, and filling after passing an electrical spark test. The optimal ambient temperature for construction is -5°C to +50°C. Outdoor construction is prohibited in rain, snow, thunderstorms, fog, humidity exceeding 85%, or in environments with strong winds and sandstorms.

 

Storage requires a cool environment of 5-30°C. Shelf life is 12 months. After freezing, it needs to be thawed at 20°C for 48 hours. During transportation, it must be protected from direct sunlight, rain, and crushing/deformation.
